Isaac is the size of Texas Storm could reach South Florida on MondayTropical Storm Isaac is moving through the Caribbean Thursday morning gathering steam for a possible run at South Florida on Monday.

Isaac is expected to become a hurricane Friday, and hit Hispaniola and Cuba this weekend before moving over the Florida Keys by Monday.

Isaac is now the size of the state of Texas. Its wind field extends out about 147 miles from the center of the storm.

The weather in South Florida should begin deteriorating Sunday, with tropical storm conditions possible Monday and Tuesday.

1 Death Reported In Puerto Rico

No major damage has been reported, but authorities in Puerto Rico say an elderly woman died in an accident while preparing for the storm.

U.S. forecasters say Isaac is likely to approach Hispaniola, the island shared by the Dominican Republic and Haiti, as a hurricane late Thursday or early Friday after intensifying over the warm waters of the Caribbean Sea. It’s predicted to move on to Cuba as a tropical storm and perhaps menace Florida as a hurricane later in the week.

Forecasters also say Isaac poses a potential threat to Florida during next week’s Republican National Convention in Tampa, though the storm’s track is uncertain.

Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn told CNN on Wednesday that he’d seek to cancel the RNC if the storm threatened to hit that area.
