Tropical Storm Ernesto

Posted by cat5shuttersllc on August 3, 2012

Tropical Storm ErnestoTropical Depression Five was upgraded to Tropical Storm Ernesto late Thursday afternoon, but remains rather poorly organized at this time. Tropical storm warnings have been issued for portions of the Windward Islands.

– Tropical Storm Ernesto will bring showers and gusty winds to the Windward Islands Friday, with showers and locally heavy rain lingering into Saturday.

– Ernesto will move into the eastern and central Caribbean this weekend. Due to a combination of wind shear and dry air, Ernesto may strengthen only very slowly over the next 24-48 hours.

Beyond this time period, it is too uncertain to determine the exact intensity, track and impacts of Ernesto.

There is a potential for Ernesto to strengthen more quickly in the western Caribbean as wind shear and dry air lessen early next week.

Here is a rough timeline, subject to change, when Ernesto may make its closest approach to these areas. Interests in these areas should monitor the progress of Ernesto closely.
– Jamaica: Sunday. Rain and wind may linger there into Monday.
– Grand Cayman: Late Monday/early Tuesday
– Cancun/Cozumel: Wednesday/early Thursday

Beyond that time, it’s unclear whether Ernesto poses a threat to the U.S. late next week.
